Parliamentary Reply by Minister Indranee Rajah on Extending PSEA Top Up to Earlier Cohorts

Ms Yeo Wan Ling:

To ask the Prime Minister and Minister for Finance (a) whether the Government will consider extending the $10,000 Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) top-up under the SG Child Support Package to Singapore Citizen students turning 18 in 2026; and (b) whether transitional support can be provided for this cohort, particularly second-year Junior College students entering post-secondary education in 2027.

Ms Indranee Rajah (for the Prime Minister):

As announced at the National Day Rally, all Singapore Citizen children will receive a $10,000 top-up to their Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) in the year they turn 17, to help defray their higher education costs. We opted to set the eligibility cut-off at age 17 as it broadly coincides with the completion of secondary school and the transition towards post-secondary education.

This will apply to Singaporean children turning 17 starting from 2026. We hope that Members will understand that all policies require an eligibility cut-off. Hence, no matter which date is chosen, it is inevitable that some will narrowly miss the eligibility window, as would be the case for the PSEA top-up.
